Axis Drop Problem in CNC Machines

The introduction of Computer numerical control (CNC) machines radically changed the manufacturing industry because of its key advantages like high accuracy and faster production. While CNC machines represent special industrial systems with their programmable capabilities, they face a critical challenge in position control of the gravity axis during power failures and voltage fluctuations.

Most manufacturing industries face problems in position control of the gravity axis during machining, particularly during unexpected power failures and voltage fluctuations. The axis slips downwards due to inertia and gravitational force, leading to expensive damages when working on the job.

Actual Cause of Axis Drop

When there is a voltage fluctuation or power failure, the servo will disable instantaneously because the three phase supply is given directly to servo. The time difference between servo disable and the brake enable, depending on the mass of the axis, causes the axis to drop.

ACCUSTOP Solution

The ACCUSTOP unit senses the three phase input voltage of the CNC machine and in the event of voltage fluctuation or power failure, the voltage to the brake is cut-off in advance, thereby preventing the gravity axis of the CNC machine from dropping.
